by Joe Iannello, President, Austin CityUP and VP CIO, Capital Metro
Welcome to the 2018 edition of Austin CityUP! This is really a great time to be in Austin and there are so many transformational opportunities that will literally change and improve the way residents and visitors will experience this great city and surrounding area. As you know, Austin CityUp exists as a non-profit, public/private consortium to help facilitate the realization of some of these opportunities.
I would very much like to thank our board of directors, who in early February, 2018, elected me to be the new president of Austin CityUP. We are fortunate to have a great group of talented and experienced individuals who are members and those who serve on our board of directors and in our management group.
Technology and innovation has never been more exciting. Autonomous vehicles of all types, artificial intelligence, 5G communication networks, contactless payment systems and so much more are just a few examples and certainly there are others that are not even on anyone’s radar yet.
We are, also, about to experience new leadership at the city of Austin and at Capital Metro. Spencer Cronk just recently became the new City Manager and, in March, Randy Clarke becomes the new President/CEO at Capital Metro. Both Spencer and Randy have a number of other things in common including both are relocating to Austin for the first time, both are about the same age and both appreciate how innovation and new technology can help improve city and transit services.
Finally, I want to thank all of the members of Austin CityUP for your involvement and want to encourage you to collaborate with other members. Certainly each member is busy with the organization’s business and projects but, Austin CityUP provides an excellent way to further leverage collaboration and resources for initiatives and opportunities that are of interest to you.
