We have built a strong smart city consortium in Austin, with more than 50 companies and organizations (local, national, and global), City of Austin departments, and interested individuals coming together in support of a shared Austin CityUP vision: to create the world’s first truly comprehensive, integrated, inclusive, sustainable, and evolving smart city infrastructure. We have perhaps the largest such consortium in the world, with vast aggregate expertise, and we are now designing and developing projects to address civic issues and improve the quality of life in Austin. One project addressing affordable housing has already achieved some initial funding, and several other projects are under way.
As the founder of Austin CityUP Consortium and the initial president of the board of directors, I am very proud of what we’ve accomplished so far—but also very cognizant that it is only a step in a journey towards achieving our vision. We have much more to do, and 2018 is the year we must capitalize on our momentum by developing projects that produce measurable results and serve as building blocks for the integrated smart city infrastructure for Austin. To do that, we need great participation from our members, and we need great leadership to articulate our plans, to encourage participation, and to organize and guide collaborations that achieve impact and fulfill our vision. It is thus with great pride that I announce the results of our new elections for the Board of Directors—the first full nine-member board with members serving full terms (two years each, staggered).
And, I happily transition from the president of the inaugural board of directors to serving the new board as the initial executive director of Austin CityUP, working with the amazing Jennifer “Houli” Houlihan as the Managing Director, to help the Board of Directors fulfill the Austin CityUP vision and execute on our plans. With that said, I introduce the Austin CityUP Board of Directors and the new officers on the board! For more information, please check out our Leadership page.
